Bears blast Bobcats in 3 innings

Mason Douglas ripped a grand slam home run, a double and asingle Thursday night to lead the host West Lincoln Bears to a 19-2Division 7-1A baseball win over the winless Bogue ChittoBobcats.
West Lincoln (6-9, 4-6) took a 1-0 lead in the first inningbefore exploding for 11 runs in the second and adding 7 in thethird to end the game after three innings. Bogue Chitto is 0-13overall and 0-10 in division play.
“We came out and hit the ball, threw strikes and we made theroutine plays,” said West Lincoln coach Keith Cline. “I’m proud ofmy seniors, ending their career at home with a victory over acounty rival. Our thoughts and prayers are with the two BogueChitto players that got hurt (Wednesday).”
Casey Britt ripped an inside-the-park grand slam home run forthe Bears. Matt Bowman singled twice and doubled. Zach Williamsalso doubled and singled. Doubling were Shane Lynch and BrettRushing. Sawyer Wallace and Tyler Case hit safely.
“We made too many errors and we did not hit the ball,” statedBogue Chitto coach Adam Moak. “West Lincoln capitalized on ourerrors. We played short handed tonight due to a couple of my guysgetting hurt during practice.”
Moak announced that Saturday’s season finale against Loyd Starhas been canceled due to team injuries.
Seth Avants and Cory Washington each doubled for Bogue Chitto.Erik Allen singled.
“We finish the division as the No. 4 seed,” added Cline. “We donot know who our opponent will be yet. It would either be Ethel orEast Webster on Thursday of next week playoffs.”
The junior varsity game was canceled because Bogue Chitto didnot have enough players due to injuries.
