BA slugs Buccaneers

The host Brookhaven Academy Cougars swung the bats well Tuesdaynight, ripping 15 hits, including 3 home runs, on their way to a14-7 District 4-AA baseball win over the Bowling GreenBuccaneers.
Brookhaven Academy, coached by Stephen Cooksey, improved to 17-2on the season and 10-1 in district play. The Cougars host CopiahAcademy Thursday for a 6 p.m. varsity game.
Keith Franklin’s solo homer in the bottom of the first inningsparked Brookhaven to a 3-0 lead over Bowling Green.
A grand slam home run by Corey Dickerson pushed the Cougars leadin the second inning to 7-0 over the Bucs.
Bowling Green exploded for six runs in the top of the third tocut Brookhaven’s lead to 1-run, 7-6.
Following a scoreless fourth inning, the Cougars punched in 3runs in the fifth, highlighted by a 2-run homer by T-Boy Lynch, fora 10-6 lead.
In the sixth, Brookhaven tacked on 4 more runs for the 14-6lead. Bowling Green scored a run in the seventh, cutting thedeficit to 7 runs.
Franklin and Dickerson added support with a double and a singleapiece. Ripping a pair of doubles was Jeremy Winborne. Paul Davissingled twice. Steven Covington, Ryan Vanderslice, Kolby Byrd andLynch hit safely.
Seth Davis was the winning pitcher (5-0) with 3 strikeouts and 3walks in 2 1/2 innings. Dickerson pitched the final four inningswith 2 earned runs, 9 strikeouts and 3 walks.
Champagne took the loss, walking 3 batters and striking outnone.
Brian Barber doubled for Bowling Green. Derek Varnado, CodyHughes and Chad Champagne singled.
