Bogue Chitto garbage activity overwhelming, coordinator says

Solid Waste Litter Control Coordinator Ronnie Durr said he hasbeen overwhelmed with the amount of garbage and trash that is stillbeing left at the Bogue Chitto dump site following conclusion of aweekend Keep Lincoln County Beautiful clean-up effort.

“The event was over Monday, but people are still leaving itemstoday,” Durr said this morning.

Durr estimated that 25 tons of debris have been hauled away fromthe site and another 25 tons have been left since the event endedMonday.

Durr said residents are reporting that out-of-county people areleaving items at the site as well. He pointed out that the eventwas for Lincoln County residents only and that those who areleaving items at a dump site after the end date could be subject tofines.

“We’ve had a very succesful event,” Durr said.

Durr pointed out that there are still three weeks left in thecampaign and plenty of time for residents to leave their trash.

“I should be out at Hurricane Lake this morning,” Durr said.”But I’m still in Bogue Chitto trying to get it cleaned up.”

Beginning today, a trash bin will be set up at Hurricane LakeRoad and Springview Road. It will remain there until Monday.

Trash bins will also be set up in the following weeks atMonticello Street and East County Farm Road from April 27 to May 1,and James Case’s store on California Road from May 4 to 8.
