BLT adds two encores for ‘Grease’

With two weekends of sold-out performances, Brookhaven LittleTheatre has scheduled two encore performances of “Grease,” theatreofficials said.

The encores will be held Thursday, May 18, and Saturday, May 20,at 7:30 p.m. nightly.

Last weekend’s performances were sold out and this weekend’sthree performances, scheduled for tonight, Friday and Saturday, arealso sold out.

“We are amazed and excited by the response we are receiving to’Grease,'” said Emily Henderson, the play’s producer.

Encore performance tickets will be $15 and will be sold inadvance at Scrapbook Friendzy, located on Schwem Avenue in the oldFlower Tree Gift Shop store location.

Tickets will go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. There will be only 275tickets sold in advance of each encore performance.

“We anticipate sold-out performances of both encore shows,”Henderson said Wednesday. “I have returned over 60 phone callstoday to individuals interested in attending the encoreperformances. I expect there to be quite a line at ScrapbookFriendzy on Friday morning of those wanting to see the show.”

Proceeds from the two encore performances will benefit the “Savethe Haven” campaign, a major renovation project to save thedowntown little theater. It is the second-longest consecutivelyrunning little theater in Mississippi.

“The cast of ‘Grease’ has generously donated their time for thetwo extra performances as their way to give back to this buildingsince being here and being involved in this adventure has given allof us so much,” said JoAnna Sproles, director. “We are very pleasedthat the response to this production has meant an unbelievabledemand for tickets.”

BLT board members also expressed appreciation for publicreaction to the play.

“There has not been a play in years, even decades, that hasreceived the kind of response that this play has seen,” said AsemZeini, BLT board chairman. “This production has exceeded allintentions of exposing our community theatre to masses of people,some of whom have never been inside the doors of BLT before.

“‘Grease’ has become the welcome mat for new interest at thetheater and we are all grateful for what is happening and what itmeans for the hopeful future of BLT,” Zeini said.
