Calcote joins FC staff

MEADVILLE – As new jobs go, Travis Brent Calcote is lookingforward to the task at hand of helping the Franklin CountyBulldogs. The new football and baseball assistant was hired Tuesdaynight, after the Franklin County school board approved his newpost.

Calcote coached at Sumrall the past two seasons.

“I’m excited,” said Calcote. “I’m ready to get to work.”

Calcote (26), will assist the Bulldogs on the gridiron asdefensive line coach under second-year head coach Grady McCluskey.He will also help the baseball team, under new coach JeremyLoy.

“We’re happy to have him here,” added McCluskey. “He’s a goodguy with a lot of family in the area.”

A 2003 Southern Mississippi graduate with a masters ineducation, Calcote is the son of current Gulf Coast CommunityCollege athletic director Chris Calcote, who is a Franklin Countynative.

“I’m looking forward to helping out,” added Calcote who beginworking with the Franklin County football team Wednesday afternoonin preparation of the Cellular South Spring Football Jamboree onMay 11 in Meadville. “It’s some good talent here.”

Calcote worked as an assistant football and baseball coach atSumrall for the past two seasons, before applying for the FranklinCounty job.

He replaces Johnny Daves, as an assistant on the football team.Daves became athletic director and head football coach at DurantHigh School two weeks ago.
