Services for Johnnie “Modena” Smith, of Wesson, are 11 a.m.Wednesday, May 31, at New Sight Baptist Church with burial in thechurch cemetery. Community Funeral Service is in charge ofarrangements.

Visitation is today, beginning at 3 p.m. at the church, andWednesday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.

Mrs. Smith, 79, died May 29, 2006, at King’s Daughters MedicalCenter. She was born on Dec. 22, 1926, to Versie Virgil Wells andEula Mae Thompson Wells.

She was retired from her job with Quality Cleaners. She was amember of New Sight Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday schoolteacher for 33 years. She was founder of New Sight Baptist ChurchJoy Club.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her son, Virgil R.Smith; her brothers and sisters, Evelyn Richardson, Lavone Smith,Lavene Ashley, Versie Virgil Wells Jr., and Barney Wells.

Survivors are her husband, Vernon Smith, of Wesson; her sons anddaughters-in-law, Sherman and Fran Smith, of Wesson, and Johnny andDoris Smith, of Brookhaven; her grandchildren, John D. Smith, AprilSmith, Mark Smith and Alecia Smith; and her 14 nieces and nephews;her 12 great-nieces and nephews and her six great-great-nieces andnephews.
