Launa Newsome Lowe, 86, died June 9, 2006, at her home inMonticello. Visitation was Sunday, June 11, at Wilson Funeral Home,in Monticello. Her funeral service was 11 a.m. Monday, June 12, atMonticello Baptist Church, with burial at Lowe Cemetery in CopiahCounty.

She was born on Oct. 13, 1919, in New Hebron, to Estus ColonNewsome and Naomi Culpepper Newsome. She was a graduate of NewHebron High School and Copiah-Lincoln Community College. She was amember of Monticello Baptist Church and had been a resident of theMonticello area for 66 years. She came to Monticello to work as thesecretary to the county Superintendent of Education, then later asthe secretary to the county agent. She retired May 1985 fromDeposit Guaranty National Bank in Monticello, as a Branch LoanOfficer after 31 years of service.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, WalterBernice Lowe; her son, Frank Joel Lowe; her parents; and twobrothers, Herman C. “Buck” Newsome, and E.C. Newsome.

Survivors are one daughter, Melinda Lowe Farthing and husbandNick; three sons, Jimmy Lowe and wife Barbara, Philip Lowe and wifeLinda, Charles Lowe and wife Debbie; daughter-in-law, Becky Lowe;11 grandchildren, Julie Richardson, Kim Kennedy, Kristen Lowe,Melissa Bender, Sallie Stevens, Billy Lowe, Ryan Farthing, LindseyLowe, Jacob Lowe, Erin Lowe and Charlie Lowe; sixgreat-grandchildren, Walt Lowe, Lane Lowe, Madeleine Bender,Matthew Bender, Samuel Stevens and Edens Richardson; two sisters,Marguerite Newsome Rutledge and Damie Newsome Ready; and onesister-in-law, Sis Lowe Witters; as well as a host of loving niecesand nephews, and great- nieces and nephews.
