Drug store planning health fair Saturday

The Brookhaven Walgreens will host a health fair that will offerfree health screenings, activities and door prizes for thecommunity from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

“Walgreens is a national company, and even though we are anational company we are made up of individuals in the community,”Quenton Mullins, Walgreens pharmacist said. “We take personalinterest in the health care of the community.”

The Lincoln County Sherriff’s Department, Brookhaven FireDepartment, National Guard, U.S. Army and the Brookhaven-LincolnCounty Chamber of Commerce will be on site to provide informationand activities.

“The National Guard is going to supply a red, white and bluehelicopter,” Mullins said. “It signifies the dignity of the countryand is Walgreens’ colors. Kids will get to get in and take picturesand touch a real helicopter.”

Along with the helicopter, the Army will bring out a Humvee.Mullins said that it gives the kids an up close view of what themilitary vehicles do.

Brookway Auto Brokers will bring out a new Hummer so the kidscan compare the new Hummer to a military Hum-v, Mullins said.

Guy’s Home Health Care, Cardiovascular Center of McComb, King’sDaughter’s Therapy and Fitness, McComb OB-GYN, Thrift Home Care,Scooter Store and Walgreens pharmacy representatives will providescreenings and health care information.

Herndon Eye Clinic will be set up inside the store to offer eyeexams.

“Eye exams are very important,” Mullins said. “Things like highblood pressure and diabetes can be detected with an eye exam. It’sjust as important as blood pressure and glucose tests.”

Eye exams, face analysis, oximetry testing, sleep apneacounseling, body mass index checks, scoliosis exams, blood pressurechecks, blood glucose checks, medication counseling and Medicarepart D help are just a few of the services that will be provided atno cost.

“So many people are confused about Medicare part D. We willprovide some assistance in understanding that,” Mullins said.
