Jackson man dies in Friday accident

A Hinds County man on his way to New Orleans was killed Fridayafternoon in a one-vehicle accident on Interstate 55 south, saidLincoln County Coroner Clay McMorris.

Arthur Pruitt, 68, died in the rollover accident that happenedaround 12:40 p.m. Friday on I-55 seven-tenths a mile south of Exit40, according to Mississippi Highway Patrol officials. Pruitt, whowas wearing a seat belt, was driving a 1988 GMC pickup.

“Apparently, he lost control, went off the road, overturned andhit some trees,” McMorris said.

The Brookhaven Fire Department’s Jaws of Life and Hog ChainVolunteer Fire Department first responders were called to thescene.

Pruitt was pronounced dead at 1:30 p.m., McMorris said.

According to family members, McMorris said Pruitt had lived inNew Orleans before Hurricane Katrina and moved to Jackson lastyear. Pruitt was going to New Orleans to see relatives, the coronersaid.
