Services for Leonard Smith of Baker, La., are 2 p.m. Wednesday,July 5, at Jones Family Funeral Service Chapel in McComb withburial in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Visitation is Tuesday from 5 until 9 p.m., and on Wednesday,from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mr. Smith, 80, died July 2, 2006, at Oschner Hospital in BatonRouge, La. He was born in Brookhaven on March 23, 1926, to Ernest”Cutworm” Smith and Lillie Franklin Smith.

He worked with Allie Chemicals in Baton Rouge for 34 years. Heentered the Army in 1944 and fought in World War II in the 10thMountain Division. He enlisted in the Mississippi Army NationalGuard several years after the war, where he was reactivated andfought in Korea as a sergeant first class. He was a very talentedbaseball and softball player.

Preceding him in death were his parents and his brothers, ElmerSmith and Pearlie Smith.

Survivors are his wife, Minnie McDaniel Smith, of Baker; hissons and daughters-in-law, Spencer and Beth Smith, Stacey and BethSmith, Shannon Smith, Steve and Jamie Smith and Scott and JulieSmith, all of the Baton Rouge area; his sisters andbrothers-in-law, Mildred Zeller, of Rockford, Ill., Mavis and AndyAnderson, of Albany, Ga., Earline and Vincent Unger, of Ashton,Ill., and Thelma Doby, of Ocean Springs; his grandchildren, Kristyand David Bush, Jonathan Williams, Dustin Smith, Corey Smith,Brennon Smith, Catherine Smith, Brandon Smith, Buford and LacyHebert; and his great-grandchild, Saigen Bush.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Smith, Nicki Smith, Butch Smith, TracySmith, Johnny Kenna and Bo Guillot.

Honorary pallbearers are Elmer Tarver, Junior Smith, MitchSmith, Greg Smith, Flint Smith, Randy Smith, Lonnie Sandier andBilly Judge.
