Natchez hammers Brookhaven Nationals

The Dixie Youth Baseball Major League 12-year old NorthSub-district 6 Tournament got under way Thursday night, at KeystoneField with a doubleheader.

Game 1 saw the Wesson All-Stars hold on for a 9-6 win over theCopiah All-Stars in 7 innings. In the nightcap, the NatchezAll-Stars got a combined no-hitter from pitchers Jake Brumfield andGivonni Dent to shut out the Brookhaven Nationals 14-0 in 4innings.

Action continues tonight as the Brookhaven Americans meet Wessonat 6 in a winner’s bracket contest. The Nationals take on Copiah at8, in a elimination game.

The Americans drew an opening round bye in thedouble-elimination tournament.

Natchez takes on the Brookhaven Americans/Wesson winner Saturdaynight at 8. The Brookhaven Americans/Wesson loser plays theCopiah/Brookhaven Nationals winner Saturday at 6.

Natchez 14, Brookhaven 0

Brumfield authored the win, allowing no runs or hits, 2 walkswith 5 strikeouts in 2 innings of work on the mound. He also aidedhis cause at the plate with 2 singles, a homer and 2 RBIs.

Dent tossed the final 2 innings for Natchez, coached by SpankyBrumfield, Boo Brumfield and Luke Brumfield.

The Natchez All-Stars used a 4-run fourth, and a 10-run fifth;evoking the 12-after-4 scoring rule.

Other singles for Natchez came from Scott Turner, Chris Perry,Daniel Hoffin and Tanner Martin. Dent and Travon Chapman eachdoubled. Perry had a 2-run homer.

The Nationals, coached by Chase Fugler, Chris Travis and StanJones, were unable to mount any offense.

Daniel Huckaby suffered the loss for the Nationals, in relief ofstarter Blake Fugler. He gave 4 unearned runs on 3 hits, issuing 2walks and striking out 2 Natchez batters. Zach Ashley, Will Lucasand Austin Travis each made a relief appearance.
