Southwest all-star team in Babe Ruth state test at Smith-Wills Stadium

JACKSON — The 15-year-old Babe Ruth State Tournament will beginat Smith-Wills Stadium Friday morning, July 14, at 9 a.m. TheSouthwest Division team will play their first game at 11:30a.m.
The Southwest team is made up of talented ball players from allaround the District 5 area. The homes of these boys range fromBrookhaven, Summit, Tylertown, Centreville and Liberty.
“Our Brookhaven boys now have a chance to show what they can doin a tight, competitive tournament with other boys from differentareas,” said Southwest manager Keith (Red) Moore. The Brookhavenplayers are Michael Cowart, Justin Ashley and Brice Huckaby.
“We have a good chance of winning this tournament if these boysgo out and do their jobs,” said Moore. “They have worked very hardand have pulled together as one. If they can maintain that kind ofteamwork, we should be OK.”
McComb Babe Ruth League officials allowed the Brookhaven juniorhigh team to play there through the summer.
“We would like to thank Coach Jones, Coach Eby, Coach Martin andMcComb High School for allowing our 15-year-old All-Star Team topractice on their field to get ready for this tournament,” saidMoore. “We would like to thank Coach Randy Spring and theBrookhaven school system for allowing us to practice, during thesummer, on the high school field.”
