Escapee apprehended, behind bars

A Brookhaven man who escaped from the Lincoln County Jail whileawaiting booking has finally reached a cell.

Sheriff Wiley Calcote said Patrick Littleton, 28, of 326 FernLane, was apprehended Saturday in Lawrence County.

The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department received an anonymoustip late Friday on the possible whereabouts of Littleton, Calcotesaid. The tip indicated the escapee was at a Lawrence Countyresidence.

“We went over to check it out and he was,” Calcote said.

Littleton was taken into custody without incident and returnedto Lincoln County. He had been at large about a week.

Initially, Littleton escaped July 8 after being brought in bythe Brookhaven Police Department.

Littleton was waiting to be processed in the jail’s bookingarea. However, as someone was coming in or leaving, Littleton ranthrough an open door to the sally port area and jumped the securityfence, Calcote said shortly after the incident.

Three jailers were suspended without pay for a couple of days asa result of the security lapse.

Littleton was originally arrested on a bench warrant.

“He’ll have those charges along with escape charges,” Calcotesaid.

Littleton remained in jail Saturday. Calcote said there is nobond on the escape charge.
