Truck totaled in train mishap

A train struck a Chevrolet pick-up truck that had rolled ontothe railroad tracks in Wesson Monday at 12:30 p.m., authoritiessaid.
Fred Smith, of Beauregard, parked his truck in the Shop &Wash parking lot and went inside. His truck either switched out ofgear or the brakes failed and it rolled onto the tracks, saidWesson Police Chief Steven Carlisle.
When Smith discovered his truck was on the tracks, he, with helpfrom others, tried to push it off the tracks. Moments later, theyheard the train coming and abandoned their efforts to remove thetruck, Carlisle said.
Officials spent about two hours cleaning up the wreck. The truckwas totaled, but there were no injuries, Carlisle said.
