Lelia Annette Brashears Cooper

Services for Lelia Annette Brashears Cooper, a lifelong residentof Brookhaven, are 11:30 a.m. on Friday, July 21, at BrookhavenFuneral Home with burial in City Cemetery in Prentiss.

Visitation is Friday from 9 until 11 a.m. at the funeralhome.

Mrs. Cooper, 96, died July 18, 2006, at Chadwick Nursing Home inJackson. She was born in Crystal Springs on June 5, 1910, to PlumbBrashears and Pinkie Reynolds Brashears.

She was a retired floral designer with Haags Flower Shop,Bertha’s Flower Shop and Shipps Flower Shop. She worked with theWPA during World War II. She was a member of Faith PresbyterianChurch in Brookhaven, where she was nursery Sunday school teacher,and a member of the church’s Women’s Circle.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, EwellJoseph Cooper; her grandson, Kevin Joseph Cooper; her brother,Hilry Brashears; and her sisters, Marie Templeton and ModenaLanford.

Survivors are her sons, Robert Ewell Cooper, of Pearl, EdwinJoseph Cooper and wife Kathy, of Ethel, and George Preston Cooperand wife Becky, of Jackson; her grandchildren, Amy Waldon andhusband Kerry, of French Camp, Chad Cooper and wife Carrie, ofTerry, and Colin Cooper, of Jackson; and her great-grandchildren,Samuel Waldon and Nichals Waldon, both of French Camp, MichaelaCooper, of Brookhaven, and Neely Grace Cooper, of Terry.

Evelyn Gorenflo Foster

Evelyn Gorenflo Foster, age 86, passed away Tuesday morning,July 18, 2006, at Beverly Healthcare in Brookhaven. She was bornFeb. 9, 1920, in Poplarville, Miss., to Charles and Susie Gorenflo.Evelyn was a 1939 graduate of Brookhaven High School. After workingas a seamstress with Stahl-Urban, she and her husband owned andoperated Foster’s Superette and J.M. Foster Trucking Company on NewSight Road. As a charter member of Halbert Heights Baptist Church,she served her Lord faithfully as a children’s Sunday schoolteacher. More recently, she has been a member of Easthaven BaptistChurch and a grateful recipient of their homebound ministry. Forseveral years, Evelyn was active in the Brookhaven Garden Club,where she shared her love for raising African violets with her manyfriends and neighbors. Evelyn also served as a volunteer at King’sDaughters Medical Center and was a member of LLL.

Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, J.M.Foster; her son, Jimmy Foster; and her brothers Charles, Isham andJ.R. Gorenflo. She leaves to cherish her precious memory, herdevoted children, Roger Foster and his wife Jan, of Brandon, WandaEvans and her husband Charley, of Brookhaven, Pam Guitreau and herhusband David, of Baton Rouge, and daughter-in-law Peggy Foster, ofBrookhaven; sisters Juanita Smith and Bess Norwood, both ofBrookhaven; her grandchildren, Cindy Smith, Christi Mills, DebbieEvans, Barry Foster, Jeff Evans, Jennifer Allen, Kimberly Collins,Rusty Allen and Carrie Foster; 15 great-grandchildren and a host ofnieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 20, at 11a.m., in the chapel of Brookhaven Funeral Home with burial tofollow at Little Bahala Cemetery. Dr. Tommy Middleton willofficiate. The Foster family received friends on Wednesday from 5until 8 p.m. at Brookhaven Funeral Home.
