Services for Euel Robert Nelson, of Monticello, are 11 a.m.Wednesday, July 26, at New Hope Baptist Church with burial in SmithCemetery in Jayess. Wilson Funeral Home is in charge ofarrangements.

Visitation is today from 5 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home, andon Wednesday at the church, from 9 a.m. until the time of theservice.

Mr. Nelson, 81, died July 24, 2006, at King’s Daughters MedicalCenter. He was born in Lawrence County on May 19, 1925, to RobertV. Nelson and Sophia Rutland Nelson.

He moved to Natchez in 1954 and resided there until 1981, whilehe was a pipefitter with International Paper Co. After hisretirement, he moved back to Lawrence County. During his lifetime,he was a Gideon and a member of Campers on Mission. He served as adeacon, a teacher, a music leader, and a youth worker in manychurches. He was a volunteer missionary in the United States,moving from Florida to Alaska with the mission work. He was amember of New Hope Baptist Church.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his stepmother, EdnaWillis Nelson; his brothers, L.C. Nelson, Maxie Nelson, DeweyNelson, Malcolm Nelson and his stepbrother, John D. Willis; hissisters, Helen Tynes, Nonnie Thames and Barbara Willis; and hisstepsister, Ruby Nell Pilot.

Survivors are his wife of 52 years, Melba Hoffman Nelson; hissons, Howard Nelson and wife Mona, of Raymond; his brothers, HoyteNelson, of Slidell, La., and Bobby Nelson, of Tylertown; hissister, Thelma Thames, of Monticello; his stepsister, PollyShirley, of Philadelphia; his grandson, Jason Nelson and wifeConnie, of Smithdale; two great-grandchildren and twogreat-great-grandchildren.
