Services for Martha L. Blackwell of Kentwood, La., were 1 p.m.Friday, July 28 at McKneely Funeral Home in Kentwood with burial inWoodland Cemetery in Kentwood

Mrs. Blackwell, 96, died July 26, 2006, at Kentwood ManorNursing Home in Kentwood. She was a native of St. Helena Parish,La. She was born on Oct. 4, 1909.

Preceding her in death were her husband, J. D. Vernon BlackwellSr.; her son, J. D. Vernon Blackwell Jr.; two brothers and threesisters.

Survivors are her son and daughter-in-law, John Alan and MaryAlice Blackwell, of Kentwood; six grandchildren, Alan RayBlackwell, Marty Blackwell, Carolyn Boyd, Johnny “Duke” Blackwell,Michael Blackwell, Jeffery Blackwell; 13 great-grandchildren; 11great-great-grandchildren; her daughter-in-law, Amy Lee Rainbolt,of Pine Bluff, Ark.; her sister, Agnes Wing, of Portland, Ore.; anda special niece, Willard Stanley, of Brookhaven.

Albert James Burks

Services for Albert James Burks, of Houston, Texas, are 11 a.m.Saturday, Aug. 5 at New Fork United Methodist Church in Meadvillewith burial in Meadville Cemetery.

Visitation is Friday from noon until 5 p.m. at R.E. TylerFuneral Home.

Mr. Burks, 80, died July 30, 2006, at West Oaks Center inHouston. He was born on March 3, 1926, to Johnny Burks and EllaSmith Burks.

He was a retired metal fabricator. He served in the U.S.Army.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, MargaretJohnson Burks; his brothers, Jessie Gibbs, John Anderson, K.C.Anderson and Johnny Burks Jr.; and his sister, Lula Mae Hall.

Survivors are his sons, Jerry Burks, of Akron, Ohio, and AnthonyBurks, of Meadville; his daughters, Betty O’Neal and PatriciaBurks, both of Houston, Brenda Cager, of Brookhaven, and LouiseWilliams, of Brenham, Texas; his sisters, Carrie Lee Rogers, ofAkron, and Annie Mae Jones, of Meadville; nine grandchildren; andtwo great-grandchildren.

Jacy Devan Thames

Services for Jacy Devan Thames, of McComb, are 3 p.m. Friday,Aug. 4 at Jones Family Funeral Services in McComb with burial inPike Memorial Gardens. The Revs. Randy Dunn and David Smith willofficiate services.

Visitation is today from 5 until 9 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m.until 3 p.m. at the funeral home.

Miss Thames, 10, died Aug. 1, 2006, at her residence. She wasborn in McComb on June 5, 1996, to Joe and Leslie Thames, ofMcComb.

She was an outgoing loving angel who loved cheerleading andswimming. She attended North Pike Elementary School.

Preceding her in death were her grandparents, W.P. Thames andLeona Eitel Thames; and her great-grandparents, Woody Seale Sr. andNell McMorris Seale.

Survivors are her parents, Joe and Leslie Thames, of McComb; hergrandmother, Shirley Nunnery, of McComb; three brothers, Marshall”Bud” Hill, of McComb, Jason Thames, of McComb, and Kevin Thames,of McComb; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Pallbearers will be Jason Thames, Kevin Thames, Casey Thompson,Cody Thompson and Chris Thompson.

Honorary pallbearers are BellSouth employees, Scott McKenzie,Roy Reeves and Doug Touchstone.
