Lady ‘Cats wallop Wesson

WESSON — Bogue Chitto girls slowpitch softball head coach ScottLeggett saw a lot of improvement in his Lady ‘Cats hitting Mondaynight.
Bogue Chitto collected 24 hits on its way to a 19-1 win over theWesson Lady Cobras in a five-inning contest. The game was calledafter the fifth inning on the 10-run mercy rule.
On the opposite side of the field, Wesson’s defense struggled,committing 10 errors in the contest.
Thursday night, Wesson hosts West Lincoln and Bogue Chittoentertains North Pike. The junior varsity games begin at 5 p.m.followed by varsity action at 6.
“We hit the ball tonight,” said Coach Leggett. “They were purehits. I was pleased with our bats.”
Leftfielder Chelsey Miller powered the Lady ‘Cats at the platewith two doubles and two singles. Ripping three singles each wereDevon Welch and Dori Hall. LaToya Braxton doubled and singled.Candace Avants, Kelli Howard and Caitlin Owens collected twosingles apiece.
Hitting a triple for Bogue Chitto was Shaquille Burton. BlaineMyers, Kimberlee Thomas, Jessie Miller, Darcey Miller and MorganRoberts hit safely.
The Lady ‘Cats jumped on the Lady Cobras for an 8-0 lead in thetop of the first inning. Wesson scored its only run in the bottomof the first.
Bogue Chitto added four runs in the second, one in the third andsix in the fourth for the 19-1 lead and eventual win.
“Bogue Chitto is a great hitting team,” said Wesson first-yearhead coach Ron Kessler. “Bogue Chitto is the best team we will faceall year. Coach Leggett does a great job with them. They know whento hit the ball.”
Leading Wesson with two singles each were outfielders DallasJackson and Summer Easterling. Christina Fink, Ann Shelby Davis andStacey Lowery singled.
Leggett complimented Kessler and the Lady Cobras. “Coach Kesslerdoes a good job with them. The top of their batting order hit theball.”
Braxton (2-0) was the winning pitcher with one strikeout and onewalk. Julie Berry (0-3) absorbed the loss with no strikeouts andtwo walks.

Bogue Chitto hammered Wesson 14-0. Kimberlee Thomas smashed aninside-the-park home run for the Lady ‘Cats.
