Braxton, Lady ‘Cats rip N. Pike

BOGUE CHITTO — Winning pitcher LaToya Braxton ripped a home runand a single Thursday night to help the Bogue Chitto Lady ‘Cats toa 10-0 win over the North Pike Lady Jaguars in six innings ofslowpitch softball action.

Braxton (3-0) had no strikeouts and walked one batter. Thelosing hurler was Hali Sasser with no strikeouts and no walks.

Bogue Chitto outhit North Pike 17-7 at the plate. Both teamscommitted two errors apiece.

“I was very pleased with our defense tonight,” said Bogue Chittocoach Scott Leggett. “North Pike hit the ball hard! We made severalkey defensive plays. Our outfield did a fantastic job. We need tokeep hitting the ball hard.”

Bogue Chitto hosts Brookhaven Monday, August 14, for two games.The junior varsity game begins at 5 p.m. followed by the varsity at6.

Contributing to the Lady ‘Cat win with four singles was ChelseyMiller. Kelli Howard, Devon Welch and Dori Hall collected twosingles apiece. Hitting safely were Candace Avants, ShaquilleBurton and Caitlin Owen.

For North Pike, Catherine West and Kristen Phelas each belted apair of singles. Hitting safely were Leonna Ballard, Lindsey Moakand Kari Bassonette.

Junior varsity action

In the JV game, Bogue Chitto dumped North Pike 11-4. DarcyMiller singled three times to lead the Lady ‘Cats. Laken Crosbysingled twice. Doubling were Josie Porter and Amanda Owen. MorganRoberts and Mikki MItchell singled.

“The JV did a great job tonight,” said Leggett. “I was verypleased with their defense and offense. We ran the bases well. I’mvery proud of them.”

For North Pike, Shelby Abdul-Hadi singled twice. LindseyJohnson, Adrianna Patterson and Alma Westbrook singled.
