Jesse Anderson, Lester Magee and Jay Livingston are the latestadditions to the Lawrence County football coaching staff. MikeDavis, LCHS head football coach and athletic director, said he washappy to welcome them aboard.

“All three of those guys are quality individuals,” said Davis.”We are fortunate to have them on staff.”

Livingston comes to LCHS from Columbia. He played for Coach JoeyPorter at Columbia and spent two years playing for Coach KeithDaniels at Pearl River Community College. Then he played two yearsat Belhaven College.

After graduation, Livingston went to Southern Miss and served asa graduate assistant under Tyrone Nix, USM’s defensivecoordinator.

“We got a good hire with Jay,” said Davis. “He’s a sharp youngman. We are proud to have him on staff.”

Livingston is in charge of the defense. He directed the LCHStrack meets last spring, coordinated them. He also worked with thepowerlifters. He teaches history.

Anderson, 24, stepped in full-time and took over for Craig Davison the offensive line. He played offensive tackle for Davis in 1999when the Cougars won the Class 4A state championship.

He majored in psychology at Millsaps and was a 4-year starterfor the Majors. He is teaching physical education at LCHS.

“This is a great chance to help the kids,” said Anderson. “I canhelp them like Coach Mike and Coach Bowie (Craig Davis) helpedme.”

Anderson spent four years at Millsaps and played on both sidesof the line. He oversees the seventh and eighth grade footballprograms at Rod Paige Middle School.

“Jesse is another quality individual,” said Davis. “He will dothe right thing and take care of those kids. He demands a lot ofthose guys.”

Magee is the latest arrival on the LCHS scene. “We were lucky toget Lester,” said Davis. “We had a coach back out on us two weeksbefore the season.”

Magee had been a supervisor at McCarty Farms but he had an itchto get back in football. At Collins, he played for Coach BruceMerchant and graduated in 1999. Magee played linebacker at JonesCounty Junior College and then two years at Nicholls State. Hemajored in engineering and is teaching math at the middleschool.

“I’m looking forward to coaching here,” said Magee.

He is helping Coach Eric Booth with the junior varsity squad.Magee comes over and finishes the afternoon with the varsitypractice each day.
