“We cranked it up in the second half and threw the ball,” saidLee (5-11, 191), a Columbus product. He completed 17 of 22 passesfor 260 yards and 3 touchdowns.
“It was a team thing,” said Lee. “I have many good receivers. They’re athletes and they can make plays for you.”
Lee’s first TD pass, a 13-yard screen to running back MarioCrump, gained ICC a 7-7 second quarter deadlock. Crump broke atackle past the line of scrimmage and spun across the goal line.Place-kicker Roger Porter kicked the PAT with 13:57 left in thefirst half.
Co-Lin (1-1) took a 13-7 halftime lead when Nick Gunter booted a39-yard field goal with no time remaining. Gunter also clicked on a33-yarder which had given the Pack a 10-7 advantage.
Itawamba dominated the second half of play. The Indians limitedCo-Lin to just 48 yards total offense and 3 first downs in the last2 quarters.
Co-Lin had taken a 7-0 first-quarter lead on a scrambling run byquarterback Cedric Johnson on the Pack’s first possession of thegame, capping a 67-yard scoring drive.
In the third quarter, the Indians reduced their deficit afterlinebacker Surframe Gilleylen of Amory intercepted Johnson at the30-yard line and returned the theft 14 yards to the 16. Porterclicked on a 26-yard field goal and it was 13-10.

Following a loss of 5 yards on a quarterback sack by linebackerBlake Spiers, and a 10-yard holding penalty against the Indians,Lee threw a strike to Griffin who made a leaping catch for thetouchdown. Griffin was well covered in the end zone but managed tocome down with the football.
Porter’s PAT put ICC up 17-13 with 13:57 left in the game.
“Co-Lin had him (Griffin) covered like a blanket,” said ICC headcoach Jeff Terril. “It was a big-time catch.”
Terril said his team played better the second half. “It was justa matter of going out and making the plays. Our offense was able tomake some throws and catches. Lee played well.
“Co-Lin has a good team,” Terril continued. “There’s a fine linebetween losing and winning in this league.”
Terril’s team plays their first North Division game next week, traveling to Coahoma.
Co-Lin head coach Glenn Davis voiced his disappointment with thedefeat. “We had penalties and did stupid things at critical times. After that first (touchdown) drive, we didn’t keep it up. We kindof melted down. We underachieved.
“Give Itawamba credit,” Davis pointed out. “They didn’t doanything to beat themselves. We had that one (TD) covered real welland then we busted coverage on the other one when they faked ascreen.”
Davis takes his team to Southwest next Thursday night for theirfirst South Division game of the season. The Bears edged EastMississippi 22-20 last night at Scooba, getting their first win fornew head coach Charles Anthony.
