Bogue Chitto dodges upset at Enterprise

Coach Steve Sasser’s Enterprise Lady Yellow Jackets gave ittheir best shot Monday but fell short of powerhouse Bogue Chitto,losing 6-4 to the Lady ‘Cats. Enterprise (9-16, 2-7) had taken a2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.

“We played for pride tonight,” said Sasser. “We gave BogueChitto everything we had. Bogue Chitto has a good ballclub but wedidn’t give up.”

The Lady ‘Cats (23-2, 10-0) went unbeaten in Division 7-1A playand begin the state playoffs next Tuesday, Oct. 10, They’ll hostLake for a best-of-three series in the opening round.

Leggett said his team was lucky to beat Enterprise. “We playedpitiful tonight offensively. Defensively, we played good attimes.

“Enterprise hit the ball. It’s reality check time for us. Wewon’t last long in the state playoffs if we play like we didtonight.”

The Lady ‘Cats broke a 2-2 deadlock with 3 runs in the 5thinning. LaToya Braxton (2 Ks, 1 BB) was the winning pitcher. NicoleSandifer (4 Ks, 2 BBs) absorbed the loss.

At the plate, 2 hits by Kimberlee Thomas, Devon Welch, ShaquilleBurton, Chelsey Miller and Braxton directed BC’s attack. CandaceAvants, Kelly Howard and Jessie Miller singled.

Enterprise was led by second baseman Karla Beth Hux whocollected 3 hits. Ann Marie Cole, Katie Hux, Sam Richardson,Lindsey Everett, Ashley Greer and Sarah Burke singled.

Catcher Katie Hux and left-centerfielder Lindsey Everett werehonored during a Senior Night ceremony.

Junior Varsity Results

In the JV game, Enterprise shut out Bogue Chitto 3-0. Lacey Orr(3 Ks, 1BB) pitched the win. Toy Smith (1 K, 4 BBs) absorbed theloss.

The Jackets (14-2) got a triple and a single from SamRichardson. Sarah Burke singled.

BC got a double from Josie Porter. Holly Miller and MorganRoberts singled.
