Blackmon powers SA over Hornets

St. Andrew’s superstar running back Bradford Blackmon scoredthree touchdowns Friday night to lead the visiting Saints to a49-14 Region 6-2A triumph over the Loyd Star Hornets duringhomecoming action on William E. “Sambo” Smith Field.

Loyd Star, coached by Josh Thibodeaux, fell to 2-5 on the seasonand 0-2 in region play.

St. Andrew’s, coached by David Bradberry,improved to 2-0 in theregion and 6-1 on the season.

Loyd Star scored in the first quarter on a 45-yard run by GarryJohnson. The PAT kick failed and the Hornets trailed the Saints7-6.

Following another St. Andrew’s score, the Hornets came back andpunched in a 13-yard pass-play from quarterback Jared Rogers toAlex Pizarras for the TD. Pizarras ran the two-point conversion totie the game.

“We tied it up 14-14,” said Loyd Star head coach JoshThibodeaux. “We end up up 28-14 at the half. We fumbled and theygot another touchdown to go ahead of us.”

Thibodeaux complimented Blackmon and the St. Andrew’s squad.

“St. Andrew’s is one of the top two teams in the district,” saidThibodeaux. “Nobody has been able to stop Blackmon.”

Thibodeaux said he was pleased with his teams’ performance.”Overall, we played pretty good against one of the top opponents inour district. They had a couple of easy touchdowns at the end. Iwas excited to see how my kids performed.”

Loyd Star travels to Madison St. Joe Friday. The game begins at7:30 p.m.
