Lady ‘Cats sweep W. Lincoln

BOGUE CHITTO — The Bogue Chitto Lady ‘Cats meet the IngomarFalconettes Saturday morning at V.A. Fields in Jackson for theClass 1A State Slowpitch Softball Title. The series will begin at11 a.m. and be played under the best-of-3 format.
Bogue Chitto swept the West Lincoln Lady Bears 9-0 and 13-3 forthe South State Championship Tuesday night.
“My girls did a great job,” said Bogue Chitto coach ScottLeggett. “I am proud of them. They are South State champions forthe third year in a row. Now, we must go out and play to winSaturday.”
Bogue Chitto improved to 30-2 on the season. West Lincolnfinished the year with a 17-12 worksheet.
Ingomar needed three games to beat Myrtle for the North 1Achampionship. The Falconettes rebounded from 10-8 loss in theopenre to win 14-12 and 10-7.
“We started the game a lot better,” said West Lincoln coachAndrew Redd. “Then Bogue Chitto hit the ball. They deserved thewin. His team has been playing together a long time. They should dowell Saturday.”
Senior LaToya Braxton was the winning pitcher in the series.Absorbing the loss was Stephanie Smith.
Bogue Chitto 9, West Lincoln 0
In the opener, Bogue Chitto jumped on West Lincoln 5-0 in thefirst inning and led 7-0 after two. The Lady ‘Cats outhit the LadyBears 10-5. West Lincoln committed five errors and Bogue Chittomade none.
“We did a good job taking Game One,” said Leggett. “We jumpedout early on them.”
Blaine Myers singled three times for the Lady ‘Cats. Dori Hallripped a pair of singles. Singling were Chelsey Miller, LaToyaBraxton, Shaquille Burton, Kelli Howard and Jessie Miller.
“We struggled at first with the sun in our faces, costing ussome errors, but we settled down and stopped them,” said Redd. “Wecould not get anything going at the plate.”
West Lincoln got a single from Holli Smith, Alexis Cook, HeatherHuff, Ashley McCaffery and Meagan Neal.
Bogue Chitto 13, West Lincoln 3
The Lady Bears pounced on the Lady ‘Cats for a brief 1-0 lead inthe first inning. Avants launched a solo home run in the top of thethird for Bogue Chitto to tie the game at 1-all. West Lincoln cameback win a run in the third to push its lead to 2-1.
The Bogue Chitto bats came to life in the fourth inning withthree runs for a 4-2 advantage. In the fifth, Braxton smashed a2-run homer and Howard drilled a 3-run homer for five runs and a10-2 lead.
Sixth inning action saw the Lady ‘Cats outscore the Lady Bears3-1 to eliminate their Lincoln County rivals.
West Lincoln committed six errors and Bogue Chitto madefour.
Contributing to the Bogue Chitto win with three singles wasChelsey Miller. Burton singled twice. Hitting safely were DarcyMiller, Caitlin Owen, Devon Welch, Jessi Miller, Myers, Hall andBraxton.
Holli Smith and Cook each singled twice for West Lincoln. KaceySmith and Keri Easley hit safely.
