Lady Falcons fly high over Bogue Chitto

JACKSON — The third time was not a charm for the Bogue ChittoLady ‘Cats Saturday as they dropped two straight games to theIngomar Lady Falcons of New Albany in the Class 1A State SlowpitchSoftball Championship Tournament at V.A. Fields. The Lady ‘Cats(30-4) are coached by Scott Leggett.

Ingomar (29-10) knocked off Bogue Chitto 8-5 in the first gameand 15-6 in the finale for the state title. Ingomar had 37 hits inthe twinbill.

Brittani Gilliam was the winning pitcher and LaToya Braxtonabsorbed the loss in the series.

Ingomar 8, Bogue Chitto 5

Ingomar jumped on Bogue Chitto for an 8-2 lead in the firstinning. The Lady ‘Cats came back with one run in the third and tworuns in the fourth to cut the deficit to 8-5.

The Lady Falcons outhit the Lady ‘Cats 12-8 at the plate. BogueChitto committed three errors in the first inning. Ingomar had oneerror.

“We gave it to them in the first inning,” said Leggett. “Ingomarhit the ball.”

Kelli Howard powered the Lady ‘Cats with a home run in thefourth inning and a single. Candace Avants and Chelsey Millercollected two singles apiece. Hitting safely were Devon Welch andDarcy Miller.

“We came out hot with our bats and our defense was solid,” saidIngomar coach Andy Wilbanks. “Our pitcher did a good job gettingstrikes. We must be more balanced the next game.”

Ashley Hale sparked the Lady Falcons with three singles. Rippingtwo singles each were Molly Speck, Stephanie Dillard and BrittanyTanner. Singling were Lindi Kidd, Heather Deaton and NatalieFrenn.

Ingomar 15, Bogue Chitto 6

In the second game, the Lady Falcons smashed 25 hits while theLady ‘Cats followed with seven. Each team committed two errors.

Ingomar led 4-0 in the first inning and 8-4 in the second. BogueChitto got a pair of back-to-back home runs from Howard andShaquille Burton to cut the deficit to 13-6. The Lady Falconstacked on two more runs in the sixth to secure the title.

“They just outhit us,” said Leggett. “They are a very good ballclub. I am proud of my girls. They have accomplished a lot in threeyears that most people never accomplish.”

Caitlin Owen and Burton doubled for Bogue Chitto. ChelseyMiller, Dori Hall and Welch singled.

“We came out with focus and took care of business from the firstto seventh inning,” added Wilbanks. “We were more consistent withour hitting this game than the first game. Defensively, we werestrong and that has been our strong point all year.”

Frenn directed the Lady Falcons with a triple and four singles.Dillard tripled and singled three times. Following with a tripleand two singles was Deaton. Three singles were ripped by BrittanyEdwards and Kidd. Hale and Speck each singled twice. Hitting safelywere Sharinna Grisham, Tanner and Gilliam.
