Thousands of people thronged into Wesson for the town’s 35thannual flea market Saturday.
Despite the fears of event organizers during the week that rainmay hamper attendance, the day’s cool, sunny weather promptedshoppers to stroll through Wesson’s downtown streets.
One shopper was overheard to say turnout was “the largest theyhad ever seen.”
Liz Spears, of Osyka, said she was excited by the number ofvendors as she began her excursion through downtown Wesson.
“Would you look at that? That’s beautiful,” Spears said, reaching out to spin a crafted metal hanger that caught andreflected light in a dazzling pattern as it spun.
More than 200 vendors from as far away as Tennessee, Alabama,Louisiana and Texas registered to offer a variety of goods fromarts and crafts to live animals in Wesson this weekend.
Numerous churches and local nonprofit organizations hawkedtraditional flea market fare with a few surprises, such as friedcorn and pralines.
