L-S student charged in knife attack

A Loyd Star Attendance Center student was injured and another isfacing aggravated assault charges as an adult following a lateMonday morning altercation at the school, said Lincoln CountySheriff Steve Rushing.
Rushing said the incident was reported as a fight involving twostudents in the parking lot around 11:40 a.m. The sheriff said bothgirls involved were 17 years old.
Contrary to some accounts, Rushing said there was no actualstabbing.
One girl, who was not identified, sustained several lacerationson the neck from a small knife, but they were not consideredlife-threatening, Rushing said. She was taken by her parents toKing’s Daughters Medical Center, where she was treated andreleased.
Following the incident, Roshuna Banks, of 2885 James Dr., wascharged in justice court with aggravated assault as an adult,Rushing said. She was released on bond Monday afternoon.
“When you’re charged with a felony at age 17, you can be triedas an adult,” Rushing said.
Authorities were still trying to determine a cause for thealtercation, Rushing said. He complimented school officials on aquick response.
“They had them separated and under control by the time we gotthere,” Rushing said.
