Firefighters responded to a house fire early this morning, whichalmost resulted in a total loss to the dwelling.

Brookhaven Fire Department Firefighter Donald Sterling saidunits responded to an early morning fire at 640 S. Washington St.at 2:50 a.m.

Reports indicate that 80 percent of the building was lost, while100 percent of the contents were lost.

Sterling said the owner of the house is Evelyn Buie, but thedwelling was occupied by George Hudson. Reports did not indicate ifHudson was home at the time of the fire, Sterling said. No injurieswere reported.

Firefighters returned to the station at 4:20 a.m.

The fire is still under investigation.
