A memorial service for Mary Ellen Berner, a resident of St.Catherine’s Village in Madison, will be held at 11:30 a.m.Saturday, Nov. 4, in the chapel of First Baptist Church in Clinton.Mark Seepe Funeral Home and Crematorium, of Jackson, is in chargeof arrangements.

Miss Berner, 90, died Oct. 29, 2006. She was born in BogueChitto on Nov. 21, 1915, to Perry Wesley Berner and Margaret HillBerner.

She was a graduate of McComb High School. She received aBachelor of Music degree in piano from Mississippi State Collegefor Women, a Bachelor of Music degree in voice from BelhavenCollege, and a Master of Music degree in voice from the Universityof Nebraska.

A mezzo-soprano, she was featured in many recitals in centralMississippi as a singer and as an accompanist. She was highlyrespected as a teacher of piano and voice in the Jackson area. Shewas a member of the music faculty at Mississippi College for 24years before retiring in 1981. She served as organist at CentralPresbyterian Church and First Presbyterian Church, both in Jackson.She was active in the Chaminade Music Club of Jackson for manyyears. She was a member of First Baptist Church Clinton, sang withthe Joy Makers Choir and was active as long as her healthallowed.

Preceding her in death were her parents, two brothers and twosisters.

Survivors are her caregivers, Richard and Marilyn Joiner, ofJackson, Tenn., and many friends.

Memorial donations may be made to the Avylon Music ScholarshipFund at Mississippi College, or to a favorite charity.
