Student hurt in morning accident

A 17-year-old Brookhaven High School student was injured earlythis morning when her car rolled over her leg at her Highway 51residence, according to law enforcement authorities.

Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department Maj. Dustin Bairfield saidthe juvenile was leaving for school around 7:50 a.m. when sherealized she had left something behind. He could not identify thegirl because of her age.

“The young lady was getting out of the car and apparently didnot get (the transmission) in park,” he said.

When the vehicle started rolling toward a fence, the girl triedto stop it, Bairfield said. She tripped and fell down in the pathof the vehicle and it rolled over her leg.

The Brookhaven Fire Department’s Jaws of Life were called to thescene, but were not needed.

The juvenile was transported to King’s Daughter Medical Center,he said. Information on her condition was unavailable.
