Lady Wolves dump Lady Bulldogs

WESSON — Co-Lin sophomore guard Nikki Williams pumped in 18points to power the Lady Wolves to a 79-62 win over the Holmes LadyBulldogs Thursday night in Mullen Gymnasium. Williams was 10-11from the free throw line, made 4 steals and had 4 assists.
In the men’s match, the Wolves fell to the Bulldogs 78-76 in thefinal .02 seconds in overtime.
Co-Lin returns to Mullen Gymnasium on Thursday, Nov. 16, to hostCoahoma for two games. The women kick off action at 6 p.m. followedby the men.
Co-Lin 79, Holmes 62
Holmes (0-3) tied the game only once, 4-4 at the 17:47 mark inthe first half before Co-Lin (4-0) took control and cruised thewin. At the half, the Lady Wolves led the Lady Bulldogs 43-31.
“We were kind of up and down in spurts,” said Co-Lin women’scoach Gwyn Young after the win. “We did some things really well. Wehave to get more consistent on offense.”
Contributing to the Co-Lin win with 15 points, 10 rebounds and 5steals was sophomore forward Erica Trahan. Hanna Porter and AliciaKennedy finished with 8 points apiece.
Holmes, coached by Ron Aldy, got 17 points and 4 rebounds fromsophomore forward Myeshia Johnson. Ashley Brown netted 8points.
“It was a good win against a well-coached team,” added Young.”They (Holmes) will get better on the season. Holmes played hardthe whole time.”
Holmes 78, Co-Lin 76 (OT)
The game looked like it was going into a second overtime beforethe ball got loose and the Wolves were called for a foul with .02seconds left. Sophomore guard Jemarri Gunn scored the game-winningfree throws for the Bulldogs. The Wolves mid-court shot bounced offthe rim after the game had ended.
At the end of regulation, the Wolves (3-1) and the Bulldogs weredeadlocked at 68-all. It looked like the Bulldogs had the win untilAnthony Wilcher nailed a 3-pointer from mid-court to tie the gamewith 1.3 seconds in regulation.
“We knew coming in Holmes was going to guard us, ” said Co-Linmen’s coach Dennis Sims after the game. “We started off the gameleery of Holmes getting after us. We had too many turnovers, missedlayups, missed free throws, etc.”
Sophomore center Christian Marshall directed the Wolves with 18points and 9 rebounds. Greg Truvillion netted 17 points and grabbed8 rebounds. Finishing with 15 points and 5 assists was CoreyLondon.
Powering Coach Todd Kimble’s Bulldogs (4-0) with 16 points wasOctavious Thompson. Dean Hadley fired in 11 points followed byMichael Marzette with 10.
“We have the opportunity to have a good ball club,” added Sims.”We have to work harder. We have to learn from our mistakes.”
