Jerrald Lee ‘Jerry’ Nations

Jerrald Lee “Jerry” Nations, 66, a retired attorney, diedpeacefully at his home in Brookhaven on Thursday, November 9, 2006.Visitation will be held Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2006, noon to 2 p.m. atthe Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Brookhaven. Funeralservices are 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2006 at the church. RiverwoodFamily Funeral Service in Brookhaven is handling thearrangements.
Jerry graduated from Brookhaven High School in 1958 and theUniversity of Mississippi in 1962. While at Ole Miss he was amember of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. He received his JurisDoctorate from the University of Mississippi in 1965. In 1964, hemarried Sidney “Butchie” Mize and they reared their two daughters,Nancy and Betsy in Brookhaven. At the time of his death he had beena practicing attorney for over 40 years.
Professionally he served as the President of the Lincoln CountyBar Association, and was a Youth Court Prosecutor for eight yearsas well as County Attorney. He was a member of the MississippiState Bar Association and held assignments on the Probate and RealEstate Committees. Currently, he was serving as the Municipal Judgefor Brookhaven.
Jerry was an active member of his church and deeply committed tohis hometown of Brookhaven. He served as President of theBrookhaven Jaycees; President of the Kiwanis Club;Brookhaven-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce board member; LincolnCounty Ole Miss Alumni Association; Secretary of Brookhaven CountryClub. He was secretary of the Lincoln County Executive Committee ofthe Republican Party for over 20 years; In 2002 he was named “King”of the Charity Ball by the Krewe of Ceres, for his continuing andpast commitment to his community. Jerry’s passions included hisfamily, taking great pride in his grandchildren, Will and Lucy; hisLord, always trusting in His grace; and his friends, loving themwith a warm and gentle heart.
As a communicant of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, Jerrywas involved as a Lay Reader and was selected as a delegate to theDiocesan Council on several occasions. He also served hiscongregation as the Junior and Senior Warden of the Vestry.
Survivors include: his daughters, Nancy Nations and husband, JonMyrick, of Oxford, and Betsy Wilson and husband, Bill, of HiltonHead, S.C.; and his two grandchildren, Will Wilson and LucyMyrick.
Preceded in death by his parents, Estus Lafayette Nations andClyde Smith Nations; his wife, Butchie; and sister Margaret.
The family is especially grateful for the care and concern ofDr. Gerry Ann Houston, the staff of Jackson Oncology and HospiceMinistries.
