Williams sacks 20 points, leads unbeaten Lady Wolves past S-S

SUMMIT — Playmaker Nikki Williams and the unbeaten Co-Lin LadyWolves are off to a 7-0 start this season. Williams sacked 20points and directed a wide-spread attack as all 13 players scoredin an 80-55 Tuesday blowout of the Southern-Shreveport LadyJaguars.
In Tuesday night’s Southwest Coca-Cola Classic women’s game, thehost Southwest Lady Bears beat Holmes 65-60.
Williams, a 5-foot-7 sophomore from White Castle, La., wasjoined in double figures by freshman Alisha Mason and sophomoreHanna Porter with 13 points each. Mason is from Brookhaven(Enterprise) and Porter is from Brandon (Northwest Rankin), atransfer from West Alabama.
“They (Lady Jaguars) really didn’t know who to stop,” saidWilliams. “We have a great bench.”
While the Lady Wolves clicked on offense, they also concentratedon defense, according to Williams. “We had to guard No. 22(Brittany Dukes).”
Dukes led the Jaguars and all scorers with 21 points but shereceived little support. Lakendria Freeman followed with 13points.
Co-Lin women’s coach Gwyn Young said he was happy to seeexcellent play from his reserves. “Some of our players stepped itup. Our subs came and we got good bench play.”
Young said Mason, Kristin Ellis and Whitney Scott playedwell.
On the backboards, sophomore post Erica Trahan helped Co-Lindominate, pulling down 14 rebounds. Dominique Whitfield had 7rebounds and 2 steals.
Williams iced her scoring spree with 5 rebounds and 4 assists.”Their (Southern’s) defense was pretty good. We had topenetrate.”
Williams had 16 points at halftime and Dukes had 13 as theWolves forged a 42-24 lead over Coach Paula Lee’s 4-5 squad.
Co-Lin posted a 23-point lead, 61-38, with 10:51 left in thegame. Ellis hit a pair of free throws and scored on a putback.
