Bogue Chitto Bobcats take two wins over Wesson Cobras

WESSON — The Bogue Chitto Bobcats had too much speed and bouncein their game as they put away the Wesson Cobras 72-54 Fridaynight.

In the girls game, Wesson battled Bogue Chitto tooth and nailfor three quarters as the visitors dominated the backboards and putaway the hosts 53-29.

Wesson travels to St. Aloysius and Bogue Chitto is at NatchezCathedral Tuesday night.

Bogue Chitto 72, Wesson 54

The 3-3 Bobcats, coached by Andrew Smithie, got a greatperformance from Keyounna Perkins, Donate Ratcliff and MarioAddison who led the Bobcats in double figures in scoring.

Perkins led the Bobcats with a game-high 27 points and led offthe backboards with 17 rebounds. Ratcliff pumped in 24 pointsfollowed by Addison with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

“Our inside game hurt us,” said Wesson boys coach Ron Kesslerafter the loss. “Perkins is a good player. He a nose to find theball and knows where he is on the floor. We have to have more thantwo guys scoring.”

Brandt Hood directed the 3-5 Cobras with 16 points and ninerebounds. Cody King followed with 14 points and four steals.Finishing with nine points and five rebounds was Jamar Sims.

Wesson played Bogue Chitto close in the first quarter trailing16-10 and 28-25 at the half. The Bobcats hit their stride in thesecond half, outscoring the Cobras 44-21 in the second half.

Bogue Chitto 53, Wesson 39

The Bogue Chitto girls (4-2) jumped on Wesson (5-3) for an 18-9first-quarter lead. The Lady Cobras came back in the second quarterwith a 15-3 run to take a 24-21 lead at the half. Going into thefinal frame, the visitors and hosts were tied 31-all. A 22-8 run bythe Lady ‘Cats secured the win over the Lady Cobras.

“In the first and fourth quarters, we played well,” said BogueChitto girls coach Christi Terrell. “We shut down in the second andthird quarter. We took over in the fourth and pulled it out.”

Powering Bogue Chitto with 17 points and 14 rebounds wasKimberlee Thomas. Shasta Porter netted 13 points and grabbed ninerebounds. Netting 10 points was LaToya Braxton. Chelsey Miller ledwith six assists.

“We didn’t play good defense,” said Wesson girls coach HughWebb.

“We got a good performance from (freshmen) Ann Shelby Davis andDanielle Tadlock. It was one of Tadlock’s better games. BogueChitto is a good ball club.”

The Lady Cobras 95-3) were led by Alexis Crosby with 11 pointsand four steals. Tadlock and Chelsea Lucas finished with ninepoints apiece. Davis and Tadlock both led off the backboards withseven rebounds.
