Brookhaven Academy sweeps Trinity Saints

JACKSON — The Brookhaven Academy Cougars and Lady Cougars sweptthe Natchez Trinity Episcopal Saints and Lady Saints in the firstround of the Hillcrest Tournament Monday night to advance toFriday’s semifinals. The Cougars ripped Trinity 57-37 and the LadyCougars topped the Lady Saints 58-35.

Both Brookhaven teams will face the winner of Leake and ColumbiaAcademy in Friday’s semis.

Corey Dickerson scored a game high 26 points, including 7 treys,and pulled down 6 rebounds as the Cougars improved to 5-1 on theseason. T-Boy Lynch added 11 points and 6 rebounds.

Blaine Roberts added 8 points as the Cougars overcame a 14-6first quarter deficit before taking the victory. Josh Winbornecollected 10 rebounds for Brookhaven.

Matthew Freeman scored 14 points to lead Trinity. LangdonMorrison followed with 6 points for the Saints.

Brookhaven 58, Trinity 35

In the varsity girls game, Drew Holland Tigner scored agame-high 14 points, had 5 assists and 5 steals to lead Brookhaven.Hannah Watts followed with 12 points, 7 rebounds and 5 steals insupport as the Lady Cougars improved to 8-2 on the year.

Sandi Hall scored 10 points to lead the Lady Saints.

Brookhaven’s teams await the winner of Leake and Columbia withgame times set for Friday at 4 and 5:15.
