Robert M. ‘Cotton’ Webb Jr.

Services for Robert M. “Cotton” Webb Jr. are 11 a.m. Friday,Dec. 8, at Saltillo Chapel of W.E. Pegues Funeral Home. A eulogywill be delivered by Sonny Lofton. Burial will be in SaltilloCemetery.

Visitation is Friday from 9 a.m. until service time at thefuneral home.

Mr. Webb, 74, died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2006, at Baptist MemorialHospital, East in Memphis, Tenn. A native of Greensburg, La., hewas born April 20, 1932, to Robert and Bertha Webb.

He grew up in Baton Rouge, La., and South Mississippi. Agraduate of Wesson High School, he then went on to Copiah-LincolnJunior College. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Koreanconflict. After his discharge from the Army, he returned to BatonRouge and worked in the insurance business. He later married SandraWesson Webb, of Saltillo, and began farming in Lee County. In 1964he was chosen as Lee County’s Outstanding Young Farmer. He enteredpolitics in 1967 when he was elected to the State House ofRepresentatives. Following that, he served as Mayor of Saltillo fortwo terms. He was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and a Shriner.After retiring from farming, he owned and operated a group of TVrental stores. In the early 1980s, he was forced to retire frommost of his business interests due to declining health. He had beenliving in the Memphis and Southaven area for the past 14 years. Hewas a member of the Saltillo Presbyterian Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mertie McCoy;and a son, Robert M. Webb III.

Survivors are his two sons, John Julius Webb, of Southaven, andWilliam Pascal Webb and wife Sherylan, of Starkville; his wife of21 years, Sandra Wesson Webb, of Oxford; his seven sisters, all ofBaton Rouge; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers are Travis Gray, Jimmy Marlin, Rodney Atkinson,Sonny Lofton, Pat Caudill and Bubbie Caudill.
