Leake sweeps BA in tourney

JACKSON — Leake Academy swept the Brookhaven Academy Cougarteams Friday night in the semifinal round of the HillcrestChristian Tournament. Leake’s Rebelettes whipped the Lady Cougars84-22 and the Rebels nipped the Cougars 59-58.
T-Boy Lynch scored a game high 32 points, pulled down 6 reboundsand had 4 steals, but it wasn’t enough as the Rebels overcame a6-point deficit with two minutes remaining to take the victory.
Corey Dickerson followed with 10 points and 4 assists in supportof Lynch. Ty Smith grabbed four rebounds and Josh Winborne addedthree boards as the Cougars fell to 5-2.
Adam Byrd led Leake with 26 points. Lance Jones followed with 17points, including the game-winning shot with just two seconds leftfor the Rebels.
In the girls game, Allison Phillips scored 16points and Whitney Gross added 14 to lead the Rebelettes. HannahLee and Rebecca Wilbanks scored 12 points apiece in support as theRebelettes raced to a 34-9 lead after the first quarter.
Kelli Snider scored 7 points to lead Brookhaven.
Brookhaven’s teams travel to Liberty Friday night to face AmiteSchool Center in their first District 6-AA matchup. Tipoff in thefirst game is set for 4 p.m.
