Wilson best offensive; Stewart named MVP

McComb running back Demorius Stewart has been selected MostValuable Player on the 2006 All-Region 6-4A Football Team. Stewart(5-9, 196), nicknamed “Short Dog,” is a senior who rushed for over1,500 yards this season, led the Tigers to the second round of thestate playoffs.

Brookhaven running back Charles Wilson was selected BestOffensive Player in the region. Wilson rushed for 214 yards and 5touchdowns in the regular-season finale against Lawrence County.For the season, Wilson (5-9, 180, sr.) rushed for over 1,600 yardsand scored 28 touchdowns.

Best Defensive Play honors went to Antwon Dixon of regionchampion Terry. The Bulldogs, under the direction of head coachBill French, reached the South State 4A finals where they lost 32-0to Wayne County. Terry was recognized as the region’s CoachingStaff of the Year.

Besides Wilson, Brookhaven is represented on the All-Region teamby quarterback Charles Rancifer, offensive lineman Darion Smith,wide receiver Simmie Yarborough, safety R.J. Jenkins, linebackerBart Sias, defensive lineman Virgil Sanders and punter/place-kickerWill Thibodeaux.

Brookhaven’s honorable mention players include defensive endLarry Winters, wide receiver Marcus Smith, tight end Chase McIntyreand offensive linemen Taylor Newman, Skyler Smith and CourtneyClark .

Representing Lawrence County on the All-Region team are linemenNick Jackson and Jake Thames, safety Will Harris and linebackerKendrick Hardy. Honorable mention went to McKenzie Woods, RicardoBarnes, Ryan McCall, Murphy Peyton, Julius Magee, Isiah Ferdinand,Dontray Collins, and Aaron Watson.
