A technological refresher earned DeAnna Culbertson, ofBrookhaven, $100 in Hometown Bucks this week during The DAILYLEADER’s annual Hometown Christmas promotion.

Culbertson was the fifth and last of the $100 Hometown Buckswinners. Next week’s winner will receive the grand prize of $500.The grand prize winner is drawn Dec. 16 from all entries receivedduring the six-week promotion.

The Brookhaven Academy English teacher said it was her annualtrip to Harvey Electronics Radio Shack to get up-to-date on thenewest gadgets and toys that prompted her entry.

“I was buying Christmas presents. I go in once a year and theyupdate me on the latest technology,” she said.

Culbertson says that with husband, Jay, and two young boys,Colby, 11, and Carter, 9, she has to be knowledgeable aboutelectronics at Christmas.

“I did immediately buy batteries,” she said. “That’s a must onthe holidays with two little boys.”

It was her second win in a week, Culbertson said. Two daysbefore, she had won a door prize during a drawing at a craftshow.

“Too bad I don’t believe in gambling or I could go to Biloxi.I’m obviously on a winning streak,” Culbertson joked.

Instead, she said, the remaining Hometown Bucks will likely bespent at other participating merchants.

“I’m sure I’ll spend it on more presents – gifts I still need tobuy,” Culbertson said.

The Hometown Bucks can be spent at any of the merchantsparticipating in the promotion. Participating merchants this yearinclude:

Forms and boxes have been placed at each merchant location forshoppers to submit entries. Residents may register at the banks butmay not spend their winnings there. Participants must be at least18 years old to enter.
