Brookhaven Academy sweeps Columbia

Brookhaven Academy’s basketball teams made a sweep of thevisiting Columbia Academy Cougars Saturday night before a packedhouse at John R. Gray Gymnasium. The Cougars topped Columbia 67-37and the Lady Cougars whipped Columbia 56-30.

T-Boy Lynch scored a game high 14 points and was one of 5 Cougarplayers in double figures as the they held a 24-17 lead after adefensive struggle in the first half. Corey Dickerson, BlaineRoberts and David Barnett each scored 11 points and Sawyer Wallaceadded 10 as Brookhaven outscored Columbia 43-20 in the second halfto improve to 7-2 overall and 2-0 in district play.

“We got a lesson in basketball tonight.” said Columbia coachReid McCay. “Coach Watts always has his team ready to play. He losta ton from last year but he still has a lot of talent on thisyear’s team.

“We missed too many open shots and turned the ball over 31times. You can’t win games when you make that many mistakes.”

Cody Moreau scored 10 points to lead Columbia as they fell to9-7 on the year. Derrick Bell followed with 5 points.

In the varsity girls game, Betsy Lynch and DrewHolland Tigner each scored 20 points to lead Brookhaven. KelliSnider pulled down 5 rebounds. Casey Smith made 5 steals. Lynch wasable to dish out 4 assists.

“I was pleased with our effort.” said BA girls coach Barry Gray.”We played well. Our defense was outstanding against a soliddistrict team. I was very pleased with our defensive effort.”

Abby McCain scored 7 points to lead Columbia. Cara Joyner andSarah Jackson followed with 6 points apiece.

Junior High Results

In junior high girls action, Mary Lindsey Magee scored 16 pointsto lead Brookhaven to a 49-46 victory over Columbia. Anna KatelynMangold followed with 11 points. Terah Winborne scored 9 points,made six steals and dished out four assists. Anna Lofton made 7steals and gave out 5 assists.

Brookhaven hosts Bowling Green Friday for 5 games. Tipoff in thefirst game is set for 3 p.m.
