Brookhaven Academy sacks Bowling Green

Brookhaven Academy tuned up for next week’s Holiday Classic bysweeping the Bowling Green Buccaneers Friday night in John R. GrayGymnasium. The Lady Cougars cruised to a 51-40 victory, directed byguard Betsy Lynch’s 17 points.

In the varsity boys game, 5 Cougars reached double digits asCorey Dickerson, Sawyer Wallace and T-Boy Lynch scored 13 pointseach in BA’s 69-49 waltz past the Bucs. Daniel Lofton chipped in 11points and Blaine Roberts 10.

The Holiday Classic tips off Wednesday in Gray Gymnasium.

The Lady Cougars (11-3) got 6 rebounds fromKacey Rutland as they took a 25-20 halftime lead. Drew HollandTigner made 5 assists and 3 steals in the win. Lynch had 6 stealsand 4 rebounds.

“I was pleased with the intensity of our girls and they handledthemselves well late in the game,” said BA girls coach Barry Gray.His team outscored the visitors 14-6 in the fourth quarter.

Colbie Robertson had 14 points and Samantha Dykes 11 for theLady Bucs.

The Cougars (8-2) got 6 rebounds and 5 stealsfrom Dickerson. Josh Winborne had 4 rebounds and 4 assists. Lynchmade 6 assists and 4 steals, helping his team to a 33-19 halftimelead.

Coach Dale Watts watched his team outscore the Bucs 36-30 in thesecond half.

Leading the Bucs was Kevin Bond with 13 points.

Junior High Action

Brookhaven blasted Bowling Green 33-14 in the junior high girlsgame, powered by Anna Katelyn Mangold’s 11 points. Terah Winbornegot 8 points.

In the boys game, Brookhaven beat the Bucs 68-51, led by JakeReed’s 20 points. Jameson Powell chipped in 16 points and MichaelWilson 11 as the unbeaten Cougars blew open the game in the fourthquarter after leading by just 3 points.

The Bucs got 14 points from Dylan Varnado and 13 from DeanKing.
