Mercedes Rosado Davis, of Brookhaven, died Dec. 24, 2006, inBrookhaven.

Mrs. Davis, 99, was born in Philadelphia, Pa., on Dec. 3, 1907,to Joseph E. Rosado and Luella Broussard Rosado.

She entered college at the age of 51 and completed bothbachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of SouthernMississippi. She taught English and Art at Copiah-Lincoln CommunityCollege for a few years, then returned to daily painting until hermid-80s. Her paintings of southern Mississippi and its people areproudly displayed throughout the country.

She was married to Oran Lloyd “O.L.” Davis, who died in1977.

She was the mother of four children, Gloria (deceased), Ruth,Judith and James. There are 13 grandchildren, 18great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

At the wishes of Mrs. Davis, there will not be a ceremony.Memorial contributions should be made in her name to the Universityof Southern Mississippi Alumni Fund or the local Brookhaven AnimalRescue League. Riverwood Family Funeral Service was in charge ofarrangements.
