Panthers win pair

MCCOMB – Brookhaven notched a pair of wins in the McCombCoca-Cola Classic Thursday afternoon in the McComb High Gymnasium.The Brookhaven Lady Panthers snoozed past St. Helena 31-18, whilethe Panthers blew past the Pine (La.) Raiders 62-29.

Tournament action concludes this afternoon, tipping off at 1:30with the Amite County/Scotlandville girls game. At 3, theBrookhaven girls meet Pine. In a 4:30 boys contest, Amite Countymeets Pine. The Lady Tigers of McComb host St. Helena at 6,followed the McComb boys taking on Brookhaven in a non-divisionaffair.

The designated visitors from Louisiana used a delay game; thusaccounting for the low score. For nearly 7 minutes in the openingperiod, St. Helena held the basketball; but Ole Brook would carry a4-2 lead into the second frame.

Leading head coach Freda Craft’s Lady Panthers (14-4) was NikkiByrd with a game-high 15 points. Ashley Byrd paced St. Helena with9 points.

Brookhaven 62, Pine (La.) 39

The Panthers (10-7) had their way with the Raiders. Ole Brookled 17-7 after one period, and 29-15 at the intermission.

Junior Charles Rancifer led the Panther charge with game-high 17points. Donaldmetric Blue followed 15 points for head coach RonaldHines.
