La. man arrested after chase

A Louisiana man is facing a variety of charges after fleeingfrom state troopers and leading them in a brief high-speed pursuit,authorities said.
Mississippi Highway Patrol Information Officer Rusty Boyd saidtroopers arrested Robert Earl Griffin, 42, of 177 Davis Road, OakGrove, La., around 9:30 p.m. Sunday after Griffin resisted arrestand fled following their attempts to investigate his vehicle.
MHP has charged Griffin with assault on a law enforcementofficer, felony fleeing, driving under the influence, speeding(100/70), resisting arrest, littering and possession of marijuana.He is also wanted in Arkansas for a probation violation, Boydsaid.
Boyd said MHP troopers Josh Leggett and Barry Stingley spottedGriffin stopped on the roadside in a 2000 Chevrolet truck onInterstate 55 south near the 39 mile marker.
“The guy started acting suspicious as officers approached,” Boydsaid. “So the officers decided to investigate.”
When Leggett approached the vehicle, he reached inside to put itinto park. That is when Griffin decided to take off, Boyd said.
“Leggett was banged up against the vehicle,” Boyd said. “Butthere were no injuries in the incident.”
The troopers pursued Griffin to the 27 mile marker where hefinally stopped, Boyd said.
“He resisted arrest and then we took him into custody,” Boydsaid.
Griffin is currently in the Lincoln County jail.
After a 24-year-old Tennessee trooper was killed in the line ofduty Saturday, local troopers have been more alert, Boyd said.
“Anytime we have something like that, it drives home thereality,” he said of potential dangers.
