FC ‘Dogs drop pair in tournament

PEARL – The Franklin County Soccer Bulldogs tour of top tenranked soccer schools was a learning experience Saturday afternoon,as the Bulldogs lost to Northwest Rankin 5-0 and to Pearl 7-1 inthe Pearl Classic Tournament. FCHS senior Ryan Ratcliff scored hisClass 3A leading 32nd goal of the season against Pearl.

The Bulldogs stand 13-4 overall and will travel to NatchezCathedral Tuesday night for a district battle. Game time has beenset for 6:00 for the girls’ game, followed by the boys contest at7:30.

Franklin County goalie Danny Mullins, a 6-foot-2-inch senior wasnamed to the Pearl Classic All-Tournament Team.

Against Northwest Rankin (14-2-1), the Bulldogs watched thefourth ranked Wildcats score five times. NW Rankin got two goalsfrom Hunter Bower, and a goal each from Pat Coates, Drew Little,and Sam Williams.

Ratcliff’s lone goal against Class 5A Pearl was the Bulldogsonly bright spot in the second game.

Over the last two seasons, Ratcliff, a senior that is receivingrecruiting attention from the likes of Delta State andCopiah-Lincoln Community College, has scored a combined 72goals.
