Hinds AHS runs all over Wesson

WESSON — The Hinds AHS Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs proved againthat they are the teams to beat in the Division 6-2A race.

On Friday night, the Hinds AHS girls held off a late surge bythe Wesson Lady Cobras for a 56-46 win while the Bulldogs poundedthe Cobras 87-61.

Wesson travels to Amite County at Liberty Tuesday night for moredivision action.

Hinds AHS 56, Wesson 46

The Hinds AHS girls (7-2, 7-0) pressured Wesson (11-8, 2-4) inthe first half, taking advantage of turnovers for a 21-6 firstquarter lead. At halftime, the Lady Bulldogs commanded a 17-point,31-14, lead over the Lady Cobras.

Wesson got 2 treys apiece from guards Perry K. Furr and AlexisCrosby in the second half to help cut the deficit to 10 points,with 1:07 left to play.

“Hinds is a big-time playoff team,” said Wesson girls coach HughWebb. “Hinds is so athletic and quick. Hinds is a solid club.”

Powering Wesson with 17 points, including 5 treys, and 4rebounds, was Furr. Crosby followed with 11 points, 5 rebounds and4 steals.

Hinds AHS got 13 points from Terri Richardson. Following with 9points was Mercedes Williams.

Hinds AHS 87, Wesson 61

Like the girls game, the Hinds AHS boys took advantage ofturnovers and rebounds to take a 24-7 lead over Wesson infirst-quarter play. Going into halftime, the Bulldogs held a huge26-point, 48-22, lead over the Cobras.

In the final seconds, a dunk by junior center Josh Hart ofWesson brought the crowd to its feet and a handshake from Wessonboys coach Ron Kessler.

“Hinds AHS is the most athletic team we have played all year,”said Kessler. “We let it get away from us in the first half. We gotcaught in their running game early on.

“We played with them in the second half,” added Kessler as eachteam scored 39 points.

Wesson senior guard Brandt Hood was the game-high scorer with 26points. Hood also collected 5 rebounds, 5 steals and 5 assists.Cody King netted 11 points. Following with 10 points and 8 reboundswas Hart.

Directing Hinds AHS with 22 points was Kendrick Washington.Keeslee Stewart fired in 21 points. Timothy Myles scored 18points.

Junior varsity boys

Hinds AHS knocked off Wesson 43-35 in the JV contest.

Demond Noel paced the Bulldogs with 17 points.

Leading the Cobras with 8 points was Zach Fetcko.
