Co-Lin’s Davis named Region Coach of Year

WESSON -Copiah-Lincoln Community College third-year headfootball coach Glenn Davis was recently named National JuniorCollege Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 23 Coach of the Year.Davis guided the Wolfpack to a 9-3 record and a No. 6 ranking inthe final NJCAA football poll.
The Wolfpack recorded a 21-0 victory over the Georgia MilitaryCollege Bulldogs in the Sea Island Golden Isles Bowl Classic inBrunswick, Ga. It was Co-Lin’s first bowl appearance since1985.
Davis previously served at Co-Lin as offensive coordinator from1995-96. During those two years, he helped lead the team to a 15-5overall record.
Davis is a 1982 graduate of Delta State University where he wasa three-year letterman as a defensive back and outside linebackerfor the Statesmen. His other coaching stints include offensivecoordinator at South Natchez High School (1982-85), graduateassistant at Mississippi State (1986-87), defensive backs and widereceivers coach at the University of North Alabama (1988-91), andquarterbacks, running backs, and wide receivers coach at HolmesCommunity College (1992-94). From1997-2003 he served as runningbacks coach at Mississippi State University under former head coachJackie Sherrill.
Under Davis’ tutelage, the Bulldogs lead the SoutheasternConference in rushing in 2000 averaging 193.8 yards per game andranked third in 1998 averaging 172 yards per game. He mentoredDicenzo Miller to Mississippi State’s sixth-ever, 1,000-yard seasonin 2000 (1,005 yards) and James Johnson to the fourth andfifth-ever, 1,000-yard campaigns in 1997 (1,069 yards) and 1998(1,383 yards).
He and his wife Minta, are the parents of two children, AnnShelby and Micah.
