Lady Cougars win big; Trinity fouls up BA boys

NATCHEZ — The Brookhaven Academy Cougars were handed 30 foulsin the varsity boys game before falling to the Trinity EpiscopalSaints 59-53 Saturday night. Due to fouls, the Cougars had onlyfour players left to play the final two minutes of the game. TheSaints were assessed 12 fouls in the game.

In the girls game, Casey Smith pumped in 11 points to lead theLady Cougars to a 54-42 win over the Lady Saints.

Brookhaven entertains Adams County Christian School Monday nightfor two varsity games.

Trinity 59, BA 53

Powering the Cougars (20-4, 8-0) with 26 points, 4 steals and 4assists was T-Boy Lynch. Sawyer Wallace netted 18 points. Tops offthe backboards was Daniel Lofton with 8 rebounds.

Wallace, Lofton, Josh Winborne and Ty Smith fouled out of thegame with two minutes remaining.

“We didn’t play well enough to win,” said BA boys coach DaleWatts.

The Cougars led the Saints at the half, 26-23. Trinity went onan 18-3 scoring run to put BA behind 41-29 going into the finalframe.

For Trinity, Stevan Ridley led the way with 19 points. JohnDavis King finished with 15 points as the Saints outscored BA 18-3in the third quarter.

BA 56, Trinity 42

The Lady Cougars (25-3, 8-0) got 10 points and 9 rebounds fromHolly Case. Drew Holland Tigner and Kacey Rutland scored 9 pointsapiece. Tigner made 8 steals and had 5 assists. Rutland was topsoff the backboards with 10 rebounds for Coach Barry Gray.

BA broke a 7-all tie with Trinity in the first quarter with a16-8 run in the second quarter to take a 23-15 lead at the half.The Lady Cougars outscored the Lady Saints 33-27 in the final frameto secure the win.

Junior high action

The BA junior high girls put away Trinity 27-17. Leading theLady Cougars with 10 points was Terah Winborne. Netting 7 pointswas Summer Calhoun.

Madeline Cross scored 13 points for the Lady Saints.
