South Pike rolls over Franklin Co.

MAGNOLIA – The South Pike Eagles swept the Franklin CountyBulldogs Friday night in a basketball doubleheader. The Eagles beatthe Bulldogs 77-70, while the Lady Eagles shocked the FCHS66-56.

South Pike (8-15, 3-6), coached by Joe Taylor got a team high 26points and 10 rebounds from Leslie Jones. Philip Brown added 16points and Brinson Johnson 13 points.

For the Bulldogs Jamie Collins pumped in a game high 28 points.Junior center Bo Tillman added 16 points, while Jarvis Huntfinished with 15 points.

“We were up ten points in the third quarter and couldn’t putthem (South Pike) away,” said Bulldogs head coach Chris Jordan. “Weturned the ball over a lot under pressure.”

Jordan’s Bulldogs dropped to 6-14 overall and 5-4 in thedivision. The Bulldogs are currently in third place in the powerfulRegion 7-3A behind Columbia and Wilkinson County.

In the girls’ contest, the Lady Eagles (20-4, 8-1) built a 34-29halftime lead and never looked back. Takeya Felder paced SouthPike’s attack with 14 points. Monique Anderson and Iveille Stewartboth added 13 points.

For FCHS (15-5, 7-2), senior LaTanya Williams had a game high 15points. Monea Cameron added 12 points, while Shareka Hunt and PaigeWebster both netted 10 points each.

Franklin County resumes play Tuesday night at Columbia for a keyRegion 7-3A match up. Tip off has been set for 6:00.
