Meridian dumps Wolves

WESSON — Regis Huddleston pumped in 22 points and Chris Leggettscored 21 Monday night, leading the Meridian Community CollegeEagles to an 85-80 South Division win over the Co-Lin Wolves.Meridian also got 15 points from Dexter Leflore and 14 from KeithJames in Mullen Gymnasium.

Co-Lin continues South Division play Thursday at Gulf Coast inPerkinston.

For the Wolves (15-6, 8-3) it was their second loss in threegames since Co-Lin men’s coach Dennis Sims was hospitalized Feb. 5,with a serious viral infection. Sims was transferred to BaptistHospital in Jackson late last week. He is at home recovering thisweek.

“Hopefully, Coach Sims will get well soon and get back tocoaching this team,” said Co-Lin women’s coach Gwyn Young who hasbeen serving as interim coach. “He knows what buttons to push.”

Young said the Wolves played poorly on defense. “Meridianoutplayed us and they outrebounded us. Offensively, we struggledthrough the whole game.”

Sophomore post Greg Truvillion carried Co-Lin with a game-high27 points, plus 4 rebounds and 2 assists. Guard Charles Lewischipped in 14 points. Center Christian Marshall had 11 points, 4blocked shots and 3 rebounds.

“We played hard and we took care of the ball,” said Meridiancoach George Brooks. “Co-Lin’s No. 44 (Truvillion) did a great joband we didn’t have an answer for him. I hope Coach Sims getsbetter.”

The Eagles (6-18, 3-8) avenged an 85-78 loss Jan. 18, atMeridian. They led the Wolves 41-31 at halftime.

Co-Lin had 17 turnovers and was outrebounded 24-18. Meridian’sMaurice Naylor, a 6-7 post player, led the Eagles with 11boards.
